It goes without saying that Batman and Superman are arguably the two most famous superheroes in the world. In fact, they’re arguably two of the most famous fictional characters in modern history, with fans all over the world. However, a superhero isn’t truly complete without a home turf to protect and defend. For The Caped Crusader, that’s of course the dark and brooding Gotham City, while for The Last Son of Krypton, it’s the sprawling and majestic Metropolis.
Were they to somehow become real, one can bet that both Gotham and Metropolis would instantly be huge tourist attractions, as DC fans rushed over to experience their favorite comic book worlds come to life. Obviously, that’s never going to happen, but Warner Bros. is planning to introduce the next best thing, in the form of life-size theme park attractions based on both famed locales. The only catch: these attractions won’t be in the United States.
According to Deadline, Warner Bros. and Abu Dhabi’s Miral have revealed plans to construct Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi, a $1 billion theme park located in the titular capital of the United Arab Emirates. The park will include six themed worlds, each tied to a popular WB property. Two of them are the aforementioned Gotham and Metropolis worlds, while the others are Cartoon Junction, Bedrock, Dynamite Gulch, and Warner Bros. Plaza. Cartoon, Bedrock, and Dynamite are all based on various animated properties, while WB Plaza will resemble old-school Hollywood.

While Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi will be housed entirely indoors, for maximum immersion, Gotham will always be lit like it’s night, while Metropolis always sports a brighter, daytime sheen. Some of the cartoons set to be spotlighted in the other lands, include (obviously) The Flintstones, as well as Looney Tunes and Scooby-Doo. One assumes that other famous animated characters from the WB and Hanna-Barbera families will also be included in some fashion as well, although which ones in particular has yet to be spelled out.
Per Miral, construction on Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi is now 60 percent complete, and is planned to be open to the public before the end of 2018. The six worlds will reportedly house 29 different attractions of various types, including thrill rides, live shows, and other theme park staples. For DC fans, the question now becomes this: How expensive is a trip to Abu Dhabi?
