Butch Gilzean makes his first appearance as Solomon Grundy in tonight’s Gotham, teased with a preview clip from the show on Twitter. We’ve known for some time that Grundy would be popping up on the show, with the season 3 finale reveal that Butch Gilzean’s (Drew Powell) real name was Cyrus Gold.

Since then, the new Solomon has been hinted at in the season preview video, as well as in interviews where the Gotham spin on the villain was teased. Now, he has finally appeared on the show, and his big reveal was shown ahead of the episode airing with a video clip released by the show on Twitter.

The Gotham Twitter account posted the minute-and-a-half long video this afternoon, captioned only “SOLOMON GRUNDY. ? #Gotham.” The video shows Solomon Grundy staggering onto a group of Gotham rednecks who are singing along to a record playing the old nursery rhyme ‘Solomon Grundy, born on a Monday…’. He gets frightened by the fire, and knocks the men down, before slowly saying his new name.

This isn’t the only tweet that the account posted referencing Solomon Grundy. The current pinned tweet references the chanted song, saying only “? SOLOMON GRUNDY ?

? BORN ON A MONDAY ?.” The clip itself also doesn’t reveal anything new about the character, such as how he returns to life this week - a fairly big question, given that he was last seen taking a bullet to the head, courtesy of Barbara Kean (Erin Richards).

The clip is a fantastic tease for tonight’s episode, and promises that Solomon Grundy is going to be another big addition to the Gotham stable of comic book villains. However, his first appearance isn’t going to be the most exciting part of his journey, especially as it has been on the cards since the season 3 finale. Instead, we are most looking forward to the day that he meets up with Barbara again (and she realizes that she isn’t the only one who can come back from the dead), and of course, the day he and Tabitha (Jessica Lucas) are reunited.

While this teaser clip doesn’t provide a whole lot of excitement in terms of plot, it’s still fantastic to see this new look for Butch - and to see a new comic favorite joining the Gotham team.
