With Grand Theft Auto VI on the distant horizon, Rockstar Games is teasing a return to Vice City for the next installment.

The ever-popular Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is already 16 years old, but it hasn’t lost any of its charm as one of the best games in the franchise. Considering that Vice City was the sixth Grand Theft Auto game, there is something poetic about the official number six returning to the neon streets of the fictional city. Grand Theft Auto V came out to critical acclaim in 2013, but it still sounds like there will be a bit of a wait until Grand Theft Auto VI hits consoles and PC.

There have already been plenty of rumors about where the series will go next, but  YouTube channel The Know has given fans something to look forward to. A video posted online suggests that Grand Theft Auto VI is eying a 2021 or 2022 release date and will use Vice City as its main setting for the sandbox game. You can watch said video, below.

The site claims that their inside source knows what Rockstar is working on for the next game, codenamed “Project Americas”. As for the cryptic working title, it teases that gamers will be able to fly between the USA and South America during the main storyline.

As well as returning to Vice City - the series’ take on Miami - the South America idea is an interesting way of how the story could go. Although The Know doesn’t reveal what time period GTA VI will take place in, the Vice City style would lend itself to the ’80s as a direct follow-up to the original game. If this is the case, a trip to South America could be explained by the drug-fueled era of cartels and Columbia during that time. Given that Vice City served as its very own Scarface homage, it makes sense for developers to expand the idea for a sequel.

The last big thing to take away from the reveals is the resurfaced rumor that the protagonist will be a woman this time around. Everyone has their own wishlist of where GTA will set VI and a wishlist for what will be included, but these latest reports should be taken with a pinch of salt. Everything remains hearsay right now and Rockstar is notoriously tight on its spoiler leaks. That being said, The Know was right with its predictions for Dark Souls III and there’s no smoke without fire. Either way, Grand Theft Auto VI is just a dot on the horizon, and if these leaks are 100% correct, everything could change before the game hits shelves.
