Chris Pratt shared a new photo giving a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the newest heroes of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Pratt battled a number of adversaries as Star-Lord in the first Guardians of the Galaxy, including Ravagers leader Yondu (Michael Rooker) and Thanos’ adopted daughter Nebula (Karen Gillan). Yondu, however, remains something of a father figure to Peter Quill/Star-Lord as the latter seeks his real father in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. He is expected to join up with the heroes in some capacity the sequel, along with Nebula.
Pom Klementieff is also going to add a new dynamic to the Guardians of the Galaxy team as Mantis, though the main members remain intact. Pratt himself is certainly excited about the returns of Yondu and Nebula as well as the addition of Mantis to the group, and he expressed his excitement in a new photo from behind the scenes of the highly anticipated sequel.
The actor posted the photo to his Facebook account on Sunday, revealing Rooker, Gillan, and Klementieff sitting in their chairs between shots and praising their performances. The actors are almost entirely in costume, save for a few items. In an amusing juxtaposition, Gillan is enjoying a canned drink while Rooker and Klementieff are checking their smartphones.
Pratt and Rooker recently commented on the relationship between Yondu and Star-Lord, teasing a deeper exploration of Quill and the man who raised him in his quest to discover his true parentage. With not just Yondu but Nebula and Mantis joining the heroes in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the team dynamics are sure to change; Nebula in particular is a strange addition and expected to continue to quarrel with adoptive sister Gamora (Zoe Saldana).
It’s unclear which new members of the team will stick around for future adventures, including Avengers: Infinity War. But with Nebula and Mantis confirmed for the Avengers sequel and Yondu expected to appear, the three new members of the Guardians team have a chance to become permanent additions after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. It’s unclear how the new team dynamics will affect the chemistry of the main group, who were was one of the biggest reasons the first Guardians of the Galaxy was so entertaining and are still the focus of the sequel’s extensive marketing campaign. Hopefully James Gunn’s got this.
