Throughout three phases and a total of 14 movies released so far, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has given fans a variety of adventures on the big screen featuring some of their favourite superheroes. They have taken us back to World War II in Captain America: the First Avenger, to a different realm in Thor, kept us at the edge of our seats with a superhero spy-thriller in Captain America: the Winter Soldier, and gave their own universe a fun twist with Guardians of the Galaxy.
Guardians introduced a group of space misfits that come together to save the galaxy – and it’s quite the eclectic bunch, with a talking raccoon and a sentient tree as part of the team. The movie was a big hit with critics and audiences around the world, and while it has various unforgettable moments, the one that caused the biggest impact was the mid-credits scene with baby Groot dancing to The Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back”. Baby Groot will continue showing his moves in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (though not in a pot and not to the same song as before) as revealed by Hasbro with this new dancing Groot figure.
Months ahead of the release of the movie, Hasbro has unveiled a dancing baby Groot toy that lights up as it sways along to Jay & The Americans’ “Come a Little Bit Closer”, because he’s still into tunes from the past. This 11.5 inch toy can also detect external music, so you can have baby Groot dancing not only to a track from the official Guardians 2 soundtrack but to any song you want. Hasbro’s Dancing Groot will be available for presale beginning on February 15th and will hit store shelves this spring. Check him out below.
Baby Groot – or more like toddler Groot – has stolen the spotlight in the Guardians 2 trailers released so far and with good reason, as he became an instant favourite after showing off his moves during that mid-credits scene. Plot details about Guardians 2 are still scarce but Groot will join his teammates as they deal with new threats such as the Ravagers and Ayesha (the golden High Priestess and leader of the Sovereign people, played by Elizabeth Debicki) while also learning more about Star-Lord’s past with the introduction of his father, Ego (Kurt Russell).
It’s not surprising that Marvel is using young Groot as the main character for the merchandise and marketing of the movie given its popularity among children and grown-ups, though it could backfire if the studio keeps making it the focal point of the marketing campaign. Still, this dancing toy will most likely be a hit among fans who can’t get enough of Groot’s peculiar dance moves.
