It’s almost hard to remember a time now when Guardians of the Galaxy’s chances of Box Office success seemed like a longshot, but the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s lovable losers were essentially nobodies before their movie was announced. Now they’re one of Marvel’s most popular franchises with a sequel on the way that won’t even bother itself with connecting to the larger MCU. Two teaser trailers have already hit for the film, the most recent of which was the second largest trailer launch ever (just after Disney’s own Beauty and the Beast).

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will continue with a story about fathers, introducing Peter Quill a.k.a. Star-Lord’s dad - Ego: The Living Planet, who naturally will be played by Kurt Russel (The Hateful Eight). Fan favorite, Groot, will also return in his baby form (still played by Vin Diesel though), at least in part because James Gunn felt that making Rocket Racoon a father figure would be keeping with the themes of the film.

Marvel recently dropped a handful of high-res stills from the trailers to Vol. 2. Just like the trailers, these images show very little unexpected material, instead focusing on the first movie’s main characters: Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot. Unfortunately, none of the pics include Pom Klementieff’s recently (and hilariously) introduced Mantis.

These images should provide some great clean options for fans who were looking for a new Guardian to add to their desktop. Vol. 2’s trailer trailers are already inviting speculation that this may the best looking MCU film yet and the high res images certainly show it off.

Despite brief glimpses of the film’s confirmed new Guardians - Yondu, Nebula, and Mantis - we still don’t have very much information at all about Ego or the overarching threat of the film. Even though Gunn has insisted that Ego’s presence in the film isn’t a spoiler, fans who weren’t able to see this year’s comic con footage don’t even know what Kurt Russell looks like in costume yet. Then again, many people argue that trailers too often reveal too much of a film. In this department, the Guardians 2 teasers have done a great job, showing fans just a hint of the characters they know and love, while spoiling next to nothing about the film’s plot.

Is there a character or aspect of the film you hope will be explored in the next trailer? Let us know in the comments section, and stay tuned to Screen Rant for updates on all things Marvel as they hit.
