The opening of Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure at Universal Studios Islands of Adventure has created some logistical issues for the theme park. The Harry Potter-themed ride became one of the most anticipated attractions at Universal Studios Florida soon after fans learned more details about Hagrid’s coaster in February 2019.
Not only does the ride take fans on a whirlwind journey through the Forbidden Forest, but it also re-introduces riders to all the magnificent magical creatures from the world of Harry Potter, as well as a fully animated figure of Hagrid. The ride features a variety of groundbreaking special effects, along with a lot of thrills, including a 17-foot plunge, making it the second only roller coaster in the U.S. with such a drop. The opening of the coaster sparked a lot of interest, resulting in wait times in line for it up to 10 hours on its opening day.
Long wait times, though, isn’t the only problem that Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure has caused. Universal Orlando Resort tweeted that it’s also causing logistical issues, too. The ride didn’t have a soft opening, meaning that the team working on it didn’t have much of a chance to work out a good maintenance schedule before it opened. So instead, Universal Studios has announced that the ride will not be available to theme park guests until midday every day over the next few weeks.
Although this could help spread people throughout the park and keep wait times lower for the coaster, it will likely cause longer lines, as many people will use the mornings to get in line early. Maintenance is, obviously, necessary, but it seems like Universal Studios should have worked that more into their plans before opening the ride to the public. Hopefully, two weeks will be enough time to get it running as efficiently as possible because demand will remain high for years to come.
The excitement over Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure proves that the world of Harry Potter still has its share of fans. From the books to the movies, Harry Potter fans continue to crave more of that magic. Fans who can’t visit Orlando anytime soon, or those who don’t want to wait in long lines, still have a few more movies to look forward to. The third installment of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, a Harry Potter prequel series, releases in 2021, with several more films to follow.
