Thandie Newton has some praise for the upcoming untitled Han Solo movie, calling her work on the film “really different.” The Star Wars spinoff is the origin story of the beloved original character Han Solo, and will be starring Alden Ehrenreich as the young version of Harrison Ford’s iconic character. Set to hit theaters next year, the movie is currently filming in London, giving fans a few glimpses of behind-the-scenes action over the past few weeks.

Set photos and teases aside, not a whole lot is known about the plot of the film beyond the basic premise - not even all the characters’ names. Several big stars have been cast in the film without official character names, including Thandie Newton and Emilia Clarke, and the lid is being kept very firmly on the project for now. However, Newton has spoken just a little bit about the film, and has some high praise for how different it is.

Speaking to The Wrap about the production, Newton was careful not to give away any spoilers, but she did say that she is “loving” working on it and that it is something completely new.

High praise from someone who has such a diverse filmography behind her. Newton is currently also involved with HBO’s hit series Westworld, a Western/sci-fi about lifelike robots in a theme park developing consciousness. She’s also worked on other sci-fi and action flicks, drama, comedy, and even animation and soap opera-style series. For an actress who has such a huge range to call the film “really different” from anything she has done in the past means that the Han Solo project is going to be truly unique.

It’s fantastic, I’m loving [it]. It’s different from anything else I have done or am doing. … I can’t tell you [why]. It’s just different, OK? It’s just really different.

Of course, Newton cannot give any explanation for this description, as the franchise is incredibly careful to avoid spoilers, but her comments are sure to set fans to speculating about what she might mean. It is possible, however, that she is referring not to the film itself, but to the experience of working on something as iconic as Star Wars. One of the biggest film franchises in history, Star Wars is sure to be a daunting experience for even the most capable actors, and involves more speculation and rumor than most other productions. Fans will just have to wait until next year to find out more - and in the meantime, look forward to this year’s Star Wars installment: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi.
